Attorney Larry Gutz graduated from law school in 1964.  He entered the military in 1965, serving in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General Group during the Vietnam War. Larry later joined Moyer & Bergman in 1977.

At Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC, we believe our longevity stems from the successes of the community. Beyond being attorneys, we are community leaders, loving parents, teachers, dedicated volunteers, and so much more.

Attorney Phil Burian is a Veteran of the first Persian Gulf War with the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a member of the advance treatment and life support to ground forces in Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Phil joined the firm in 1998 and currently practices primarily in civil litigation, trial in state and federal courts and alternative dispute resolution. When he’s not practicing law, Phil is very active in the leadership role of the Cedar Rapids Curling Club. He frequently travels to curl in competitions throughout the U.S. and he will be competing in the U.S. Arena National Championship in May of 2016. He is shown here training in Oakville, Ontario.

Attorney Rae Kinkead has been with the firm since 2014 and practices primarily in the area of family law. Among her many accomplishments, Rae was selected as one of Alpha Sigma Alpha’s 30 Under 30 (Theta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority at Schreiner University). When she’s not working on family law matters, Rae is a coach and committee member for Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa. She also runs a small poultry operation on her family farm which has been in operation for over 20 years. She is shown here tending to her day old Cornish Rock chicks.

Thomas Wolle has been with the firm since 1997. His law practice focuses on workers' compensation defense and labor and employment law. Thomas is also a talented musician and athlete. He is shown here playing his violin and is also featured with his wife, Susan, after running the Des Moines Marathon. Thomas has done 11 marathons; Boston, Chicago, Grandmas and Twin Cities have been the "big" ones, but he really enjoys the smaller marathons like Des Moines.

Many of our attorneys have held adjunct professorships at local colleges and universities. Phil Brooks serves as an adjunct lecturer at the Emmett J. Vaughn Institute of Insurance and Risk Management located within the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa where he teaches life, health, property and liability insurance courses. Phil joined the firm in 1977. He attends to civil and tax matters of a wide variety with emphasis in estate and business tax planning for closely-held entities including corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships and sole proprietorships.

David Bright joined the firm in 2014 and has a general transactional practice in Coralville and Cedar Rapids. David was born and raised in Iowa City, where he lives with his wife and children. He attended the University of Iowa College of Law, where he has since served as an Adjunct Professor. When David isn't practicing law, he is spending time with his family or giving back to the community. David is very involved in the Corridor and serves on the boards of directors for the Cedar Rapids YMCA, Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation and Bur Oak Land Trust; the Advisory Committee for YMCA Camp Wapsie; and the Development Board for the University of Iowa's Obermann Center for Advanced Studies. David is also a frequent speaker at local colleges, bar association events and seminars, on issues ranging from business formation to museum law. David is pictured reading to students at Shimek Elementary School on Read Across America Day and with his family at Camp Wapsie, where he has been involved as a camper, staff member and volunteer, for nearly 35 years.

Amanda D'Amico Erickson is a member of the firm and is engaged primarily in business law, corporate law, taxation, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, estate planning and probate law. She's been associated with the firm for 13 years. Amanda is also an adjunct professor at Mount Mercy University. Her many volunteer efforts have included spending time on the Board of Directors for Indian Creek Nature Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Amanda was also a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters, presenter for the SCORE Association, and was a volunteer tax preparer for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). She also taught Junior Achievement for a number of years. Amanda's top priority is family. She enjoys spending time with husband, James, and four boys Dominic, Vincent, Noah, and Brady. Amanda was listed in Best Lawyers in America in 2016 and was awarded the 2015 Corridor Business Journal's Forty under 40 Award.

Graham Carl joined the firm in 2014. He is a general litigation attorney with the majority of his practice involving transportation, labor and employment, construction and appellate work. Graham was born and raised in Mount Vernon. He received his bachelor's degree in Economics with a minor in Business at Loras College in Dubuque and his Juris Doctor with Highest Distinction at the University of Iowa College of Law. When he's not practicing law, Graham enjoys spending time with his family. He has an 11-month-old niece who he believes may be "the cutest baby of all time" and is engaged to be married in 2017. Graham is pictured with his niece, Alyssa and fiancée, Katie Frank.

Christopher Voci has been with the firm for eight years. His practice is focused on helping companies with their patent, trademark, copyright and software issues. Christopher does a fair amount of international agreements and connects with attorneys in many foreign countries. He recently moved from Denton, Texas to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, while commuting to our Cedar Rapids and Coralville locations. When he's not practicing law, Christopher spends his time with wife, Jae-Jae and 13-month-old daughter, Neva. They enjoy long walks, hiking, biking and chasing Neva around the playground.

For more than thirty years, SPMB Member Carrie Thompson has called Cedar Rapids home. Carrie has combined her lifelong interest in science and business into the practice of law; specializing in healthcare law, professional liability defense, and professional licensure and credentialing. Prior to law school, Carrie ran a successful business and then joined Howard R. Green Company as a scientist in their environmental group. Her combined experiences have provided a solid and broad business background, which has contributed to her success as an attorney. Carrie's love for the area shows through her active involvement in a variety of community organizations. She is the vice president of the Cedar Valley Humane Society Board of Directors and a member of the Mercy Home Care Advisory Board. When Carrie is not busy with work and volunteer efforts, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Bob, and two dogs, Briggs and Igby. They enjoy golf, scuba diving, boating, live music and spending time in McGregor, Iowa, with friends and family.

Since coming to the firm in 1988 from U.S. Bank, Lynn Hartman has built a large statewide practice representing financial institutions. She serves as SPMB Banking and Finance Practice Leader and is a member of the firm's board of directors. Lynn was raised in Epworth, Iowa, was the oldest of eight children and attended Western Dubuque Community School District. Following her high school graduation in 1980, she studied at the University of Iowa where she met her husband Carl and became a lifelong Hawkeye fan. She and Carl have three children, Megan (25), Blaine (23) and Lilly (19). They enjoy traveling around the country visiting their children and various other family members. At home, Lynn loves to entertain, especially at Christmas time. She is also active in many community organizations having a focus on improving the lives of women and children.

Bill Vernon joined the firm in July of 1981. His current practice concentrates on commercial litigation and business planning. It was 39 years ago when Bill earned his JD from Drake University Law School. He followed his law degree with a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Missouri School of Law, and then admission as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1979. This week, Bill was re-elected to the Iowa State Bar Association's Iowa Title Standards Committee – A committee he has been a member of since the 1990's. Bill is also very involved in the community and has served as Vice Chair for the Board of Adjustments for the City of Cedar Rapids since 2005.

Bill and his wife, Monica, have been married for 32 years. They have three adult daughters – Natalie, Frances, and Eleanor. When he's not practicing law, Bill enjoys family time, golf, tennis, running, and finding ways to empower others to make a difference in life quality.

Bob Konchar has been a long-standing member of the firm since 1965. Through the years, Bob has practiced law in a variety of areas, most notably as a litigation attorney for employment law, transportation law and construction law. Bob also works in civil litigation and appeals.

Bob was born in Madrid, Iowa and was raised in Cedar Rapids. He attended the University of Iowa College of Law in the early 1960's, during which time he clerked for Moyer and Bergman. Bob stays involved with many legal and industry associations where he also presents on employment law issues.

Bob was honored for sustaining a 50-year membership with the Linn County Bar Association in 2015. He has been recognized by his peers through many rating sites and is involved in many legal and industry associations. When he's not practicing law, Bob enjoys spending time with his wife (Sharon), three children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren - all of which are located in the Midwest.

Attorney Scott Bogguss began practicing law in 1971 in Cedar Rapids. He is engaged primarily in business law, trusts and estate, taxation, pension and profit sharing plans, corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, finance, and agricultural law. Scott grew up in Aledo, Illinois. He later earned his JD at the University of Iowa College of Law where, as an undergraduate, he also played football as a wide receiver (then known as a flanker) until the adventure ended with a chronic shoulder separation. Scott then served during the Vietnam War – While tentatively scheduled to go to SE Asia in 1972, the war was winding down and Scott did not have to go overseas. He was discharged in the mid-1970's as a captain in US Army Reserves (Armor Branch).

Scott has served on many boards, including the Hawkeye Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, the Cedar Rapids School District Foundation, the Cedar Rapids Symphony Foundation, and is a past chairman of the board of the St. Luke's Health Care Foundation. He also served as chairman of the board of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation during the flood of 2008.

Scott and his wife, Joann (Jo), of 42 years live in Marion. They have two children Jordan and Katy. Jordan is a screenwriter in Hollywood. Katy and her husband David live in Colorado with their two sons, Makai and Murphy, and are expecting another son in March 2017. Scott likes to read, play golf, and is very interested in computer technology, but most of all, enjoys spending time with his family.

Matt Hektoen joined Moyer and Bergman PLC in 2007 and became a member of Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC in 2012. Prior to joining the firm, Matt earned a BA in History and Music from the University of Iowa and his JD from the University of Iowa College of Law. Currently, he is engaged primarily in the practice of commercial real estate law. When Matt is not advising clients, he lives in Iowa City with his wife Sara, and their children, Theodore (4) and Eileen (3). Matt and Sara stay busy with children’s activities and restoring their century-old home. Matt also donates his time and resources to community organizations such as the Iowa City Community School District Foundation and the Linn County Title Standards Committee and is a past member of the Real Estate Section Council for the Iowa State Bar Association.
